AED performed a PHA (Process Hazard Analysis) and LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) for a client's natural gas-fired pyrolysis oven project. By conducting sequentially our team was able to offer a more robust risk assessment to understand both current and future risks under a full range of possibilities. Weak points in the process were identified and addressed as a direct result of the study leading to increased plant safety, and more efficient operations.

Working with a global petrochemical manufacturer AED conducted a series of dispersion analyses (liquid propylene relief valves) for one of their most critical plants in North America. The study determined if associated vapor clouds would contact locations where personnel could be present and provided design recommendations to mitigate hazardous scenarios. By assigning experienced Process Engineers, who coupled their field surveys with cutting-edge software, the team was able to provide a detailed report that was executed efficiently and met client expectations.

As part of AED's sustaining capital program support, AED's on-site and home office personnel designed an upgrade for a major refinery’s filter enhancement. The project consisted of a technical bid evaluation, procurement and detailed designs to increase the backwash capability supporting the refinery’s process of newly added filter improvements. Since the design utilized existing equipment, ASME calculations were provided to re-rate the pressure vessel and create pump specifications for its new service.
