About the Position

The Civil/Structural Engineer will perform all phases of civil- and structural-related design and engineering services for multiple projects from conception through start-up and serve as a point of contact with client and project team personnel for the civil/structural engineering discipline.

Technical Knowledge

  • Ability to perform the calculations necessary to support the development of civil & structural details and designs
  • Have a working knowledge of applicable industry codes/practices
  • Oversee (and at times create) civil and structural drawings, sketches and documents, such as project plot plans, civil and structural layout plans, underground piping and utility designs and details, foundation details and designs, structural steel support structure details and designs, connection details, installation details and D&R plans as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • E.I.T. or P.E. License
  • 3-8 years’ experience in the refinery, chemical, or petrochemical industry
  • Required knowledge of industry design standards and codes such as ASCE 7 and IBC
  • Field surveying and site walkdown experience a plus
  • Work with vendors to ensure the equipment design and fabrication drawings have the necessary structural design and design load information

About the Position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will perform all phases of electrical-related projects from conception through start-up and delivery, including electrical system model development and evaluation, specification of electrical distribution equipment, development of construction package drawings, serve as a point of contact with client personnel, and support startup and commission efforts. The ideal candidate should be familiar with the development of control systems and be able to support in-house I&C engineering efforts.

Technical Knowledge

  • Develop complete electrical drawing packages as part of construction packages
  • Develop electrical drawings and documents that include one-line drawings, power plans, hazard classification maps, cable routing (cable tray/raceways), cable & conduit schedules, grounding and lighting plans (including photometric studies)
  • Specify and select electrical distribution equipment (Switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, UPSs, etc.)

The successful candidate shall be skilled in the design of electrical systems for chemical/petrochemical refinery and pipeline industries.

Mandatory minimum experience:

  • Electrical systems design experience (minimum seven years) in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in the development of electrical drawings and documents that include one-line diagrams, power plans, electrical equipment arrangement drawings, cable routing (cable tray/raceways), cable & conduit schedules, schematic wiring diagrams, grounding plans, and lighting plans.
  • Proficient at AutoCAD 2D

Engineering Specialist – Fixed Equipment

Engineering Specialist – Fixed Equipment

Northern New Jersey

This position will lead improvement of the reliability of fixed equipment and civil infrastructure at a US manufacturing site in North New Jersey to ensure safety and a high degree of reliability and performance.

Successful candidate will directly interface and coordinate inspection and repair activities with safety, maintenance, project and process personnel as well as contractors. 

Successful candidate will also be expected to assist in the development and review of equipment designs for expansion projects and plant improvement projects.

Also, the successful candidate will be expected to be a key contributor to the maintenance organizations by providing technical direction, troubleshooting, and guidance on maintenance practices and preventative maintenance techniques.

Key Outputs: What we can expect from you

  • Work with maintenance section to improve plant’s fixed equipment and civil infrastructure to ensure a high level of reliability and capability in line with business priorities
  • Investigate, analyze and determine root causes of failures or inherent defects in equipment/piping and recommend solutions
  • Utilize knowledge and experience of reliability concepts to create maintenance strategy for fixed assets
  • Maintenance knowledge of heat exchangers, tanks, towers, vessels, reactors, cooling towers and furnace
  • Work with Maintenance to develop long term plan for upgrading of and improvement to fixed equipment and civil infrastructure
  • Support implementing the corrosion program to identify, detect, and mange corrosion of piping systems
  • Provide expert view and knowledge to assist plant Inspection engineer to develop, maintain and implement maintenance and inspection procedures for fixed equipment and civil infrastructure
  • Implement reliability centered maintenance process to continuously upgrade performance and the reliability of the facilities
  • Reviews and approves the designs and calculations of outside engineering consultants in matters concerning the engineering / mechanical effort for all projects
  • Provide input to management of change and capital projects to ensure that applicable code and regulatory requirements are met
  • Provide NPQC (Non-Process Quality Control) input and advice for new capital projects fixed equipment and civil infrastructure
  • Lead effort to research and implement technological and material advances for fixed equipment and infrastructure that will increase reliability and/or decrease maintenance cost
  • Pro-actively seek out cost savings and reliability enhancement opportunities
  • Conduct cold eyes hazard/operability reviews of new equipment designs and existing equipment
  • Work with Engineering and other Fixed Equipment Specialist to develop and updated fixed equipment standards and guidelines
  • Provide technical support, modify, and/or develop preventative maintenance practices to improve reliability, optimize maintenance resources, while minimizing process downtime
  • Any additional responsibilities as assigned

Technical Knowledge

  • Overall technical lead engineer and design coordinator on a project, responsible for the technical content of all work packages issued

Qualifications

  • Minimum seven 7 years’ experience in a refinery or chemical environment

Allied Engineering & Design (AED) continues to grow and seeks a talented Senior Structural/Civil Designer to add to our team in South Jersey!  

This individual will have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience supporting multiple small to mid-size projects in the chemical / petrochemical / oil & gas refining industries, be a proficient AutoCAD Designer, have recent experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D, and be able to utilize Laser Scan data files to verify existing site conditions for the 3D model creation and utilization.

This person will work under the supervision of lead engineer and will be the lead, senior structural/civil designer on the assigned projects.

In addition to AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and relevant Laser Scan experience, a successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 10 years of structural designer experience that includes structural steel platforms, equipment supports, pile support systems, pipe supports, cable tray supports, pipe & cable tray racks & bridges, industrial buildings, reinforced concrete foundations, piers, pile caps and slabs.
  • Relevant civil designer experience that includes site plot plans, erosion and sediment control plans, containment berms, stormwater plans, underground utility piping plans, industrial roadways, loading docks, and truck & railcar unloading/loading racks/spots.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to contribute scope and workhour estimate information for multiple project proposals
  • Ability to self-monitor and control cost & work hour execution on a project

About the Position

The Senior Process/Chemical Engineer will perform all phases of process-related design for multiple projects from conception through construction and start-up and serve as a point of contact with client and project team personnel. Technical Knowledge

  • Overall technical lead process engineer and design coordinator on a project, responsible for the process related technical content of all work packages issued

  • Develop material and energy balances
